I recently started a 10 month journey, with some truly incredible classmates, in the Aurora Chamber’s Leadership Aurora program. The program, which spans from October to June, extends beyond the office and into the heart of Aurora, Colorado. Monthly outings including community, police and fire department days are aimed at getting an up close look at the people and places who help our city operate.
During “Community Day” in October, we were split into groups and each group toured two remarkable facilities: ours were Ronald McDonald House and the Ready to Work in Aurora.
The Ronald McDonald House serves as a refuge for families with children who are receiving treatment in nearby hospitals. The visit allowed us to witness firsthand the positive impact of this “home away from home”. It is a beautiful and serene space for families to feel a soft landing in a time of need.
Ready to Work focuses on helping homeless individuals get back on their feet through employment, housing and on-going support. Our visit to this facility highlighted the important work they do and the significant role it plays in combating homelessness.
Both of these experiences gave me a glimpse of the impact these organizations make on a community and I’m excited to discover more as the year continues.
As a graphic designer, I work to find unique ways to combine my professional expertise and my goal of giving back to my community.
I love supporting organizations by bringing their vision to life through a design and brand that reflects their personal and professional values. Design has the potential to create social impact and change lives, and I love collaborating with like-minded professionals to help them do just that.
